Hi Nino,
I agree with you whole heartedly. Our society is too quick to medicate people not only for depression but for every health concern. Remember alot of times the drugs they use to treat depression cause depression. (Read the side effects from the package insert from your next prescription.). Instead of us taking responsiblity for ourselves and adhering to a healthier lifestyle, we want to take the easy way out. Instead of making healthy decisions with our diets, we just want to eat whatever we want and take a pill to lose the weight. What people don't realize is the poison's that they are putting into their bodies!!! All the processed foods with no nutritional value or if they have any nutritional value it comes from vitamins synthetically made in a lab. All of our vitamins and minerals should come from the foods we eat. So no wonder we all feel tired and depressed all the time. Our brains and bodies are not getting the right "fuels" (vitmamins and minerals) to help them run efficiently. Eating healthy is not rocket science. Eat the food that God gave us. Fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains.
In addition to poor diet, I believe depression is caused by our thought process. When we allow others negative thoughts/feelings to influence us we can't help but think any other way. NEVER let anyone put you down. Remember one thing.....GOD made you to be you. You have so many great qualities and if others can't see that, than move on and find others that do!!!! GOD put us here for a reason. We all have a purpose. So if you don't have positive people in your lives, get some. Join your local church, get out in your community. Do things for others and you'll be amazed at how much better you feel.
Now for anyone reading this you're probably thinking what does she know.....she's hasn't had to go through all I've gone through. Well let me tell you this. I worked in the pharmaceutical field for about 8 years. I did everything from working in retail (Eckerd Drugs-3 years) as a pharmacy technician and then I worked in a hospital pharmacy for 5. I did everything from in patient drug prescription, to working in sterile hoods making chemothereapy treatments, making caffeine solutions for babies in the neonatal units, and hyperalimentation (dinner in bag) for patients who couldn't eat. I've done it all. One thing of the many important things I learned is that it's all about the MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hospitals carry one drug that is not as effective for treatment as others only because it's cheaper. Chemotherapy is a waste. The only thing used to treat cancer causes cancer. Any pharmacist will tell you that. The pharmacist's working for the drug companies push the drugs more and more so they can make more money. Ever notice how you see more advertisements/commercials now than say oh 10 years ago for medicine??? The prices of the drugs continue to rise to cover all the advertising expenses.
Now more importantly, I suffered from depression. 3 years ago after the birth of my son, I noticed that I was not my usual happy go luck self. I couldn't understand why I was not happy. God had just blessed me w/a beautiful son w/10 fingers, 10 toes, and all organs working properly. Well first I didn't realize that after undergoing major surgery (c-section w/complications) my body had just been stripped of all it's vitamins and minerals. My son and the delivery had wiped my body out. It took me a long time to realize all of this but I did. Now unfortunately I did not have anyone to help support me. My son's father was unwillingly to address my problems and I was too embarrassed to tell any of my friends or family. ( I didn't want to admit that I could not handle everything on my own). It wasn't until I found GOD that I turned my life around. He helped me realize that I have so much too offer. I learned that GOD would forgive me for all my mistakes and that HE LOVED ME UNCONDITIONALLY!!!! He wanted a better life for me.
I am now going to church every sunday, praying and talking to GOD all day, everyday. But I will tell you this, I struggle everyday. When things in life TRY to get me down, I just pray to GOD to give me the strength and he is always right there. (I just lost my mother who has had failing health most of her life. She battled breast cancer twice, smoked until the day she died and underwent many surgeries. Now I am addressing my father who was just diagnosed the other day w/prostate cancer). And he doesn't ask for anything in return. He has helped improve my life THREE FOLD!!!! He has put so many people in my life who also believe as myself. They help me when I have my doubts.
Remember we are only here for a brief time. ENJOY your life!!!! Even though once we accept GOD as our lord and savior and we will go to a better place when we "die" GOD still wants us to be happy now. He doesn't want us to waste our time and energy on the bad times and negative people. He wants us to honor him and help others. Remember he has a purpose for you. When you get down, look inside yourself and find all the great things about yourself. If you're worried about that five extra pounds you're carrying around just remember there are people out there who are crippled and can't walk. Basically there is someone who is worse off than you. Thank God that you have 2 legs to stand on everyday and that you can get up and walk around. And I can say this because I have a 43 year old sister w/cerebal palsy who has never walked a day in her life. Her body is now so crippled up that she is almost in a fetal position. So I THANK GOD EVERYDAY that I can walk. I can get out and run and play w/my three year old son.
So if you are suffering from depression, don't be afraid to ask for help. Seek out your local church, friends, family. Take care of yourself. Seek out a nutritionalist to help w/your diet. Find a homeopathic doctor (they treat the body w/natural remedies that allow your body to heal itself. NO DRUGS...they don't believe in drugs)!! Don't just sit down at night w/that bowl of ice cream to comfort you. Get up and move....take a walk. Walk your dog (if you don't have one, get one if you have the time and can afford one. They're the best companionship. They, like God will love you unconditionally.
Ok, I've said enough here. Feel free to comment me on anything I've said here. I hope that I have helped someone.
P.S. I'm a Health & Fitness Specialist in corporate fitness...if that matters to anyone or helps w/anything I've said on here and what I base my opinion on.
TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS!!!! :)
